It is the world’s second leading infectious cause of blindness, and almost the entire global burden falls on Africa.

Treatment

Some people experience itching, swelling, or discomfort shortly after treatment, caused by the immune system reacting to dying microfilariae. This is usually mild and resolves on its own.
